La-La-La Lavender!

Lavender is one of my favorite things.  It's pretty to look at and smell and even great to cook with.  I recommend that everyone incorporate lavender into their daily lives, it's easy to come by and can be used in so many different ways.
Lavender (Lavandula)
Good for the Body and the Mind!
I like to use a lavender infused lotion during my massage sessions because it's a relaxing scent that's also good for the skin.  It's among the safest and most widely used of all aromatherapy oils.  I encourage you to add 5-10 drops of lavender oil to a hot Epson Salt bath after a massage or long workout to get the toxins out of your muscles!  For some great lavender bath recipes check out The Joys of Lavender.

Medical Benefits
According to The University of Maryland Medical Center
A number of studies have reported that lavender essential oil may be beneficial in a variety of conditions, including insomnia, alopecia (hair loss), anxiety, stress, and postoperative pain...Lavender is also being studied for antibacterial and antiviral properties.

Scent-a-Day
I'm a firm believer that a little aromatherapy each day helps keep the doctor away.  It's easy to make a lavender pillow, sachet or pouch!  Check out some of these craft blogs for some simple do-it-yourself tips:
You can buy lavender buds in bulk; Key Creek Lavender Farm in San Diego sells a 1/2 lb. bag for $15.   Check your local farmers market for fresh and local lavender buds and aromatherapy oils!  If you live in the San Diego area, please mention this blog for a $10 discount on your first massage visit
